Kristin Salek • Designer • Art Director • Quintessential Nerd with Comical Aspirations Born in 1386, I have been fortunate to have witnessed first-hand, Art History in its entirety. Being born into a two-dimensional world of icons is beyond explanation. I would compare modern computer graphics to the advent of perspective and the third dimension. My earlier works with Leonardo DaVinci included elaborate pranks, which I am happy to say, have succeeded some 500 years later. Personally, I found the Baroque period nauseatingly ostentatious and over-marketed. Neo-Classicism was just another fine example of modern-day boy bands…simply put, people just didn’t have cameras yet. It is a little known fact that Impressionism was a pure mistake. All I did was accidentally bump into one of Van Gogh’s paintings as he was trying to sell it. And all these years, they thought his ear removal was a sign of insanity… I was perhaps most inspired by the naturalistic grace projected by the Art Nouveau period. After all, I taught Mucha much of what he learned. As for Modernism, I simply realized that it was much better to sell my work while I still was alive. All kidding aside… I have over twelve years experience in the graphic arts industry and understand its ever-changing nature, as in Art History. I graduated from Parsons School of Design in 2003 with my second degree, specializing in Graphic and Digital Design. I’m currently working for one of the biggest ad agencies in New York City and have freelanced for many companies over the years. I’ve also done plenty of pro-bono work for non-profit theater companies. I’m continuously updating myself with the ever-changing technologies, which I have finally learned, are integral to the constantly evolving and growing world of art and design. |
